What is School Choice?

The concept of “School Choice” promoted on this Web site is that parents should be equally free to choose public schools and private schools for their children. In some states (for example Florida, Arkansas and Iowa) parents can claim a voucher close to the cost of educating their children in public schools and spend it at accredited private schools (including religious schools). These school voucher systems have operated in some US states for decades and have achieved resounding support from parents wherever this freedom has been extended to them. Far from damaging the public schools in these areas public school boards have responded by creating more real choice within the public school system.
